NMFS issues regulations to implement Amendment to the Fishery Management Plan (FMP) for Groundfish of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands (BSAI) Management Area (BSAI FMP) and Amendment to the FMP for Groundfish of the Gulf of Alaska (GOA) (GOA FMP), collectively referred to as Amendments / This final rule prohibits directed fishing for sculpins by federally permitted groundfish. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: NMFS manages the groundfish fishery in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands (BSAI) according to the Fishery Management Plan for Groundfish of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands Management Area (FMP) prepared by the North Pacific Fishery Management Council under authority of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation.

The Western Alaska Community Development Quota (CDQ) Program allocates a percentage of all Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands quotas for groundfish, prohibited species, halibut. This Fishery Management Plan (FMP) governs groundfish fisheries of the United States (U.S.) exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of the Bering Sea and that portion of the North Pacific Ocean adjacent to the Aleutian Islands which is between Ε W.

longitude and the U.S.-Russian Convention Line of The FMP covers fisheries for all stocks of finfish and marine invertebrates except salmonids. U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the eastern Bering Sea and that portion of the North Pacific Ocean adjacent to the Aleutian Islands which is west of W.

up to the U.S.-Russian Convention Line of Subareas: The area is divided into two subareas, the Bering Sea and the Aleutian Islands.

The annual cycle of sea ice coverage in the EBS directly influences ecosystem productivity. Winter winds that bring cold arctic air and ice from the north into the Bering Sea affect the extent of the annual sea ice formation in the EBS and the timing of sea ice breakup in the.

With jurisdiction over the ,square-mile (2, km2) Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) off Alaska, the Council has primary responsibility for groundfish management in the Gulf of Alaska, Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands, including cod, pollock, flatfish, mackerel, sablefish, and rockfish species.

NMFS proposes regulations to implement Amendment to the Fishery Management Plan (FMP) for Groundfish of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands (BSAI) Management Area (BSAI FMP) and Amendment to the FMP for Groundfish of the Gulf of.

The Aleutian Islands Area for statewaters sablefish fishery management (Figur- e 2) encompasses all state waters of the Bering Sea south of the latitude of Cape Sarichef (54° 36’ North latitude), and of the Pacific Ocean west of the longitude of Scotch Cap Light (° 44’ West longitude).

Bering Sea/Aleutian Islands Groundfish. The Fishery Management Plan for Groundfish of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands Management Area (BSAI Groundfish FMP, Appendices) includes all species of groundfish (pollock, cod, flatfish, sablefish, rockfish, etc.) fished commercially by vessels using trawl, longline, pot, and jig gear.

NMFS is prohibiting directed fishing for Pacific ocean perch in the Western Aleutian district (WAI) of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area (BSAI) by vessels participating in the BSAI trawl limited access sector fishery. This action is necessary to prevent exceeding the total. Federal Register / Vol.

Seafood harvesters of crab and groundfish in the stormy waters of the bering sea and Aleutian Islands, where average temperatures were warmer than usual, were close to or caught all of their seasonal allocations by early March, in some cases because of increased participation.

The weather has been pretty warm, and Western Alaska has been hit by some crazy storms, said Miranda. for the Bering Sea and Aleutian Island crab fisheries, the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands multispecies groundfish fisheries, and the Central Gulf of Alaska rockfish fishery.

The Bering Sea (Russian: Бе́рингово мо́ре, tr. Béringovo móre) is a marginal sea of the Pacific forms, along with the Bering Strait, the divide between the two largest landmasses on Earth: Eurasia and The Americas. It comprises a deep water basin, which then rises through a narrow slope into the shallower water above the continental shelves.

This action is consistent with the goals and objectives of the Fishery Management Plan for Groundfish of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands Management Area. DATES: Effective hours, Alaska local time (A.l.t.), January 9,until the effective date of the final and harvest specifications for BSAI groundfish, unless otherwise.

Covering over two million sq km (, sq mi), the sea is bordered in the west by Russia and the Kamchatka Peninsula; in the south by the Aleutian Islands, and in the east by sea ends in the Bering Strait, located just to the south of the Arctic Circle.

That strait is a somewhat narrow sea passage between the easternmost point of the Asian continent (Russia) and the westernmost. For the FMP for the Groundfish Fishery of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands (BSAI) Area, the SAFE report is published in three sections: a “Stock Assessment” section, which comprises the bulk of this document, and “Economic Status of Groundfish Fisheries off Alaska” (i.e., the “Economic SAFE report”) and “Ecosystem.
